The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, has issued a notification directing all self-financing medical and dental colleges and State private university medical colleges to strictly comply with fee regulations relating to the MBBS course.
The circular reiterated the National Medical Commission’s public notice, which directed all medical colleges/institutions/universities to collect MBBS course fee only for the prescribed academic duration of 4.5 years. Following the notice, the Selection Committee had communicated the same to all self-financing medical colleges and State private universities.
All these private institutions were told to strictly follow the “Proceedings of The Committee on Fixation of Fee in Respect of Self Financing Professional Colleges” dated June 12, 2025, and that they should not collect any other fee other than what is fixed by the committee. The self-financing institutions should strictly adhere to the instructions without fail, the directorate said.
It may be recalled that in February this year, a section of students, parents, and activists flagged an issue that some self-financing medical colleges in Tamil Nadu were demanding tuition fees for the fifth year of MBBS/BDS, which is the internship year, from Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students despite rules prohibiting the same and directives from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research.
