Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAs I mentioned, I’ve been in a reading slump—okay, I can’t lie to you. I’ve been reading constantly, but it’s all been fanfiction. I need to pull myself together if I want to make a dent in my TBR.
The only books I finished in August were a reread of How Far the Light Reaches by Sabrina Imbler, for my book club; Soara and the House of Monsters, Vol. 6 by Hidenori Yamaji, the latest in a fun manga series about fantasy architects; and Harder Than It Looks (Real Hero Shit #2) by Kendra Wells, a graphic novel series that has all the best aspects of playing D&D—adventure, humor, and steamy scenes.
I have high hopes for my September reading, though.
First off, I’m rereading Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ, translated by Lin King, since it’s my book club’s next pick.
I also have checked out the whole series How Do We Relationship? by Tamifuru from the library: I enjoyed the first five or so volumes I read, and since it’s now complete, I’m looking forward to reading all 15 volumes back-to-back.
Another library hold I’m looking forward to diving into is Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part II: An Indigenous Horror Anthology edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. I really enjoyed Never Whistle at Night, so I’m looking forward to reading this one as we enter Halloween season. (Which, yes, is two months long.)
Speaking of Halloween season, I have a couple of sapphic gothics I’ve been saving for September. I like to save most of my horror reads for October, but September is for gothic novels, obviously.
The first one is Spoiled Milk by Avery Curran, which is also a book club pick, and the second is Muñeca by Cynthia Gómez. There are some of my most-anticipated releases of 2026, but I’ve been saving them for the fall.
Fingers crossed that I am able to dive into some good books this month and leave behind the slump!
