Commodities Commentary - Manav Modi, Commodities Analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial services
Gold prices inched higher rebounding nearly 2% in previous session, recovering from a one-year low as easing crude oil prices and bargain hunting provided support. Brent crude declined sharply amid renewed diplomatic efforts between the U.S. and Iran, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian indicating greater authority to pursue peace negotiations and President Trump also signalling progress.
The decline in oil helped moderate energy-driven inflation concerns and reduced some pressure on expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening. However, markets continue to price around a 75% probability of another Fed rate hike in December, keeping the broader monetary backdrop challenging for bullion. The recent AI-led equity selloff had also triggered margin-related liquidation and profit booking in gold, adding to October’s correction.
Meanwhile, Chinese household buying has picked up at lower price levels, providing some physical support. Attention now shifts toward the U.S. midterm elections, as potential changes in congressional control could influence fiscal policy, government borrowing and longer-term demand for safe-haven assets.

Market breadth positive: Advances/declines ratio at 32:18 indicates positive market breadth.

Key support zone: Nifty November Futures has moved above 23,620. The 23,600–23,620 region is expected to act as immediate support, with 23,450 as the next support.
Upside targets and caution: Futures could advance towards 23,950 and 24,000. However, 23,750–23,770 is a key near-term resistance zone, where a corrective dip towards 23,630 or lower is possible.

Bitcoin faces pressure as ETF outflows and Fed concerns weigh on sentiment
Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com
Bitcoin is trading around 77,000-78,000 after the sharp sell-off at the end of October. The market remains vulnerable as concerns over the Binance security incident weigh on sentiment. Immediate support is around $77,200, followed by $76,200. Resistance lies near $78,300, with $78,600 as the next level. A sustained move above resistance could signal stabilisation, while a break below support may renew selling pressure.
ETF flows have weakened sharply. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded inflows of $110.3 million on October 26, $176 million on October 27 and $137.3 million on October 28. Inflows slowed to $17.2 million on October 29, before a substantial $643.2 million net outflow on October 30. This reversal suggests institutional demand remains fragile.
On-chain and derivatives indicators point to caution. Spot buying improved, while selling pressure in perpetual futures remained persistent. Futures open interest remained elevated, while options skew rose to 11.2%, indicating stronger demand for downside protection. Weekly ETF flows turned modestly positive at $46.7 million, although the improvement was limited.
Large-cap altcoins remain under pressure. In the November 3 Indian-market snapshot, Ethereum traded at Rs. 2,14,211, down 16.59%. BNB stood at Rs. 66,270, down 9.25%. XRP was at Rs. 117.71, down 18.25%, while Solana traded at Rs. 8,738.65, down 23.13%. TRON was at Rs. 30.40, down 7.28%.
Macro conditions remain a key risk. The Fed held rates at 3.75%–4.00% in October, but officials have since argued for further tightening. A Reuters poll found all 100 economists surveyed expected a December hike. Markets have also reduced, but not eliminated, expectations of a December increase. US midterm elections and incoming inflation data remain important risk events.
Our advice: Investors should avoid aggressive buying during volatility. Watch Bitcoin’s support levels, ETF flows and Fed signals before increasing exposure.

Bitcoin slips below $77,000 as long liquidations mount and derivatives activity accelerates
Nischal Shetty, Founder, WazirX
Cryptocurrency markets remained under pressure, with Bitcoin trading near $76,845, down 1.90% over 24 hours, while Ether declined 1.70% to approximately $2,250. Total cryptocurrency market capitalisation fell 1.87% to $2.58 trillion. 24-hour trading volumes stood at $23.45 billion for Bitcoin and $10.58 billion for Ether.
Equity volatility adds to the cautious backdrop
US equities showed uneven performance. The Nasdaq fell 1.07% and the S&P 500 declined 0.51%, while the Dow gained 0.41%. The divergence suggests greater pressure on technology stocks. The VIX rose 8.91% to 21.15, signalling higher expected volatility in US equities. Against this backdrop, crypto’s decline is consistent with a cautious environment for risk assets. Gold slipped 0.21% to $3,961.40, while oil edged up 0.15% to $96.60.
Derivatives activity expands despite falling prices
CoinMarketCap indicated 24-hour perpetual trading volume increased by 97.90% to $740.82 billion. Futures volume rose 40.94% to $421.04 million. Outstanding exposure also increased in perpetual contracts. Perpetual open interest climbed 26.65% to $362.52 billion.
CoinGlass reported $365.90 million in liquidations across 93,206 traders over 24 hours. Long liquidations accounted for $306.71 million, or 83.8%, compared with $59.19 million in shorts. This indicates that positions anticipating higher prices bore most of the forced closures. Bitcoin liquidations reached $85.15 million, Ether $54.21 million and Solana $24.10 million.
A small net inflow on 2 November after approximately $769.21 million in outflows on 30 October shows a modest improvement.”
