Topics covered include: postmodern “metafiction” as exemplified in John Fowles’ The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1969); the pastiche architectural styles of postmodernism, as exemplified by the Portland Building (1982); the description of “post-industrial society” of Daniel Bell; the description of postmodernism’s “incredulity toward metanarratives” of Jean-Francois Lyotard; the description of postmodern consumer society of Frederic Jameson; and the postmodern philosophical critique of all foundations of knowledge or being in Friedrich Nietzsche, Jacques Derrida, Richard Rorty and Michel Foucault.
