Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat has said parliamentary exchange programmes help strengthen the growing ties between India and Norway.

As part of the Indian parliamentary delegation taking part in the India-Norway Knowledge Exchange Tour, Mr. Sribharat attended a series of engagements in Oslo on the second day of the visit on Tuesday (June 2, 2026). During the tour, the delegation visited the Norwegian Parliament (Storting), where Mr. Sribharat met former Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

He described the meeting as a privilege and said the discussions focused on bilateral relations, democratic governance and parliamentary best practices. Mr. Sribharat also met Members of Parliament and representatives of the Standing Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs. He said the meetings had given him a better understanding of Norway’s legislative and administrative systems.

During a guided tour of the Storting, the delegation, which included Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari, also watched parliamentary proceedings from the public gallery to see Norway’s legislative process at first hand.

The discussions also covered the implementation of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, investment, technological collaboration, maritime trade and other areas of mutual interest. Mr. Sribharat said the positive response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent official visit to Norway reflected the growing momentum in India-Norway relations and signalled a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.

The MP also met Norwegian parliamentarians of Indian origin, including Himanshu Gulati, Jones Andresen Sayed and other representatives, and exchanged views on issues of common interest. He said the growing role of leaders of Indian origin in Norway’s politics reflected the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Speaking of the India-Norway Knowledge Exchange Tour, the Visakhapatnam MP said the programme offered a good platform to find new areas of cooperation in governance, technology, innovation, trade, education and sustainable development. He said such initiatives deepened mutual understanding of democratic values and helped strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Norway.
