Legendary former Springbok flyhalf Naas Botha has landed a new rugby gig in America.
Botha, 68, has been appointed as director of rugby of the Kansas City Blues, who compete in the USA Rugby Division 1 - the level just below Major League Rugby.
News24 reported in March that Botha and his family had relocated to the United States, citing family reasons.
The Kansas City Blues welcomed Botha on board, saying he will help with the club’s player development and strengthening pathways for athletes to compete at national level.
A statement from the club read, “A Springbok flyhalf who represented South Africa from 1980 to 1992, Naas is a highly decorated international rugby figure.
“Inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2015 and a four-time South African Rugby Player of the Year, Naas brings decades of international rugby experience to the club and a vision for growing rugby throughout the Midwest.”
Botha, who played 28 Tests for the Springboks between 1980 and 1992, became a well-known pundit on SuperSport after his rugby career ended.
Botha also has a history with the United States, having played for American football outfit Dallas Cowboys as a placekicker in the early 1980s.
