We had Xbox raise its prices in 2025, Sony hike the PlayStation 5 earlier this week, and now Nintendo’s former sales lead reckons a price hike to the Nintendo Switch 2 is ‘inevitable’.
As reported by VGC , the former sales lead employee of Nintendo appeared on the Kit & Krysta podcast to discuss all things Nintendo Switch 2. He was asked about whether he expected the Switch 2 console to see a price hike in the near future, to which he explained the several factors that Nintendo will be considering.
Sean says, “Unfortunately, I think eventually the hardware price is going to have to go up,” dashing the hopes of gamers looking to pick up the console for a bargain anytime soon.

““We’ve seen inflation being a problem for a while now. Tariffs are a more recent nuisance, but they’re not going away anytime soon. The demand that AI is causing for chips is is causing memory prices to go up,” Sean continues. “And you know, within the past couple of weeks, we have issues with oil prices going through the roof.
“And when oil goes through the roof, that’s not just shipping costs that go up, there’s… you know, we can imagine, to get the the games from wherever they’re being manufactured, to the warehouse, to the retailers, to the shelf, that’s going to drive the price up.”
He also explains that the ongoing war in the Middle East is only going to cause inflation to get worse, which isn’t going to help the Nintendo Switch’s price get any cheaper either.
However, there is a silver lining in that there are other ways Nintendo can try to mitigate the cost of the Switch 2 with its other revenue streams. Merchandise and other legacy franchise earnings – like the recent release of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie – can help the company keep costs down for the consumer for a little while.
The company also recently announced that physical and digital versions of its games will now be priced differently with physical copies now a little more expensive than their digital counterparts. This is another way that Nintendo can keep the Switch 2 console price the same while moving the needle slightly in other areas of the business.
“So they may be able to put off raising hardware prices for a moment, but I I think it’s inevitable that they’re going to go up for the first time,” Sean says.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 for a retail price of £395.99, or £429.99 if you purchased the Mario Kart World bundle. There’s no word on just how expensive the console could get with a price hike, but the PlayStation 5 recently saw a £90 bump across the board earlier this week.
So, if you’re considering picking up a Nintendo Switch 2 at all, it might be worth trying to do so now before a potential price bump kicks in.
