A one-time accounting gain of ₹1,611 crore, arising from legal settlement and regulatory matters, helped Vodafone Idea (Vi) narrow its Q1 net losses to ₹3,754 crore. That’s a 43 per cent improvement in its bottom line compared with the same quarter a year ago.

The company also reported a 10.2 per cent year-on-year increase in its average revenue per user (ARPU) o ₹190. Sequentially, the metric grew 2.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, the company saw its subscriber base decline by 4.6 million during the period to 193.1 million. Compared to the March quarter, however, the number rose marginally. Revenue from operations grew 6 per cent y-o-y to ₹11,689 crore, while EBITDA came in at ₹5,034 crore, rising 9.1 per cent y-o-y.

“FY27 is the year of execution for us. During the quarter, we have delivered on all the critical business parameters we measure our success on, including subscriber addition – the first since merger and we will continue to drive this,” said Abhijit Kishore, CEO of the company.

“Our 5G is now live in over 200 cities. Our on-ground execution intensity continues, with capex orders worth ₹9,000 crore already placed. The ongoing conversation with the lenders gives us the confidence of successful closure of debt discussions.”

He added that the company’s focus, now that all critical business parameters are “moving in the right direction”, remains on execution and AI-led transformation.

As of June 30, Vi’s bank debt stood at ₹211 crore. The cash and bank balance stood at Rs 6,558 crore aided by the receipt of part proceeds from warrant issuance this quarter.
