(Bloomberg) — The US said it had no role in redirecting the first Qatari liquefied natural gas shipment to transit the Strait of Hormuz in more than three weeks.

The Al Areesh, which had been idling in the Persian Gulf since loading at Qatar’s Ras Laffan export terminal in early July, transited the waterway early Thursday with its transponders switched on and was signaling Pakistan as its destination.

The ship is now near the Port of Muscat in Oman and has changed its estimated time of arrival in Pakistan to Aug. 6 from July 31, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg.

US forces weren’t involved in redirecting the vessel, Centcom spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said Friday. The vessel was ordered by Iran to pause its voyage to Pakistan, according to a person familiar with the matter.

A delay to the delivery of the LNG shipment threatens to worsen the energy supply crunch in Pakistan, which depends on Qatar for nearly all of its imports of the power plant fuel. Pakistan has paid more than $400 million since the war began in late February to procure LNG shipments on a spot basis as a replacement for canceled cargoes.

The Qatari shipment was the first sent through the strait since one of the country’s tankers was attacked in the waterway more than three weeks ago. Pakistan negotiated with Iran to secure safe passage for at least one Qatari shipment, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

QatarEnergy, one of the world’s biggest LNG exporters, extended force majeure on LNG shipments for European and Asian customers earlier this week, clouding the outlook for global supplies as both regions look to refill fuel inventories ahead of winter.
