Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), said he was “confident” Republicans would hold the Senate after the midterm elections were tallied.

“Let’s talk about the broader state of play for the Senate,” NBC host Kristen Welker said. “According to the Cook Political Report, six of the key battleground races have shifted out of Republicans’ favor since April. Texas and Iowa moved from Lean Republican to Toss Up just this week. As chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, why do you think that so many of these Republican leaning races have now moved to toss-ups?

Scott replied, “Well, I am very confident that we will be in the majority at the end of November this year. And let me tell you why. We are facing the most dangerous, radical, and frankly, Kristen, weird Democrats I’ve seen in my lifetime. Let’s start in Texas. James Talarico believes that God is non-binary. He’s a person who’s so out of step with Texans that we’re seeing a coalition building around our candidate, Paxton, Republicans and Democrats and independents coming together to make sure that James Talarico never seats the Senate floor.

“You turn your attention to Michigan,” he continued. “Abdul El-Sayed, the same kind of dangerous, radical, weird candidate. They’re all over the country. We feel really good about where we are. And if you want to go back to Iowa, we have Ashley Hinson, a strong, powerful candidate running very strong in her state. And on the other side, we have Josh Turek, who has never seen a tax increase he didn’t like. We’re talking about someone willing to take resources out of the pockets of people working overtime. We’re talking about someone who believes that raising taxes will help people in Iowa meet their needs and buy their groceries.”
