U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday that would rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America” in the U.S., his latest shot at Canada after trade talks fell apart last week. In the wake of that decision, experts have pointed out that the name Lake Ontario appeared on maps more than a century before the U.S. declared independence and long before there was a province called Ontario.
