Los Angeles is one of the few lucky cities in the U.S. that celebrates rooftop season year-round. But as the first signs of summer start to emerge, the umbrellas go up, and the spritzes really begin to flow. While New York City is a mecca for open-air rooftops on swanky skyscrapers, L.A. has the upper hand when it comes to variety. From Downtown L.A. to the Westside, you’ll find sky-high lounges all across the city, with views ranging from industrial, urban settings to sweeping ocean seascapes.
Spots like Spire 73, Florentín and Broken Shaker place guests in the heart of L.A.’s iconic skyline, while Hollywood’s Desert 5 Spot and Weho’s The Roof at Edition offer upbeat party vibes and buzzy atmospheres. Those craving a more refined experience with elegant craft cocktails and an upscale ambiance can visit Bar Funke or Poza. While you’ll definitely have to brave a little traffic, Halo has helped elevate Long Beach nightlife with a design-forward setting and distant bay views, but if you’re a westsider looking to stay local, head to Kassi in the heart of Venice.
With spring in full swing and summer right around the corner, get ready for a scenic imbibe at L.A.’s best rooftop bars.
L.A.'s Must-Visit Rooftop Bars
Kassi Venice
- 1697 Pacific Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90291
Kassi is the only true rooftop bar in Venice, with a prime location atop the Hotel Erwin that immerses guests in the quirky boardwalk vibe. The ocean views stretch for miles, but when you look in the other direction, L.A.’s mountain-meets-city landscape is also worth admiring. The low-lying couches are situated in what feels like open-air alcoves, and though you can stand around the bar during a busy afternoon, we recommend reserving a table for the best experience. Cocktails like a classic Aperol Spritz and Mediterranean Gin and Tonic are available on draft, but on a particularly warm day, cool off with a tequila-based Santorini Slushie. The vanilla-infused espresso martini can be made with your choice of tequila, vodka or mezcal, while the Grecian Negroni uses a dill-infused vermouth to complement the cucumber. For the ultimate sunset spread, round out your visit with a few dishes like the fried zucchini chips, crispy halloumi and hand-pulled flatbread with whipped avocado.
Perch L.A.
- 448 S Hill St, Los Angeles, CA 90013
Perch has been a part of the DTLA bar scene since 2011, and 15 years later, it continues to thrive as a go-to spot for locals seeking cityscape views in an eclectic setting. There are several sitting areas and couches scattered across the 16th-floor rooftop, but on the weekends, be prepared for standing room-only, as Perch gets pretty packed. Most of the signature cocktails lean fruity and refreshing, with favorites being the Penthouse Passion and herbaceous Le Jardin. Perch also offers an innovative selection of mocktails, such as the color-changing Parisian Nights and savory Lovely Greens.
Halo Rooftop Bar
- 210 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90802
By restoring the historic Breakers Hotel, Fairmont has elevated the Long Beach culinary scene with a few redefining drinking and dining concepts. Halo, the hotel’s chic pink-and-green rooftop bar, offers creative cocktails along with panoramic views. Grab a candlelit table on the open-air terrace while watching the sunset over the bay, or snag a velour stool inside at the glamorous bartop, surrounded by pink palm leaf wallpaper and shiny, dark tiles. The Banana Bread Old Fashioned is a signature creation of the hotel that shouldn’t be missed, but if you’re craving something classic and refreshing, opt for the Pisco Sour or the tangy Pineapple Daiquiri.
Poza
- 9291 Burton Way, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
Located at the L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, this sunny and refined rooftop feels quintessentially California with its striped couches, fringe umbrellas and sweeping views of mansion-dotted mountains. The food menu features a diverse array of coastal American bites like sushi rolls, a Brussels sprout Caesar salad and lobster rolls, while the cocktails pay homage to the hotel’s glamorous history. The 1975, named after the property’s founding year, is the hotel’s signature take on a piña colada, while the Burton Sunset Spritz is a refreshing combo of Veuve Clicquot, Cocchi and strawberry boba.
Florentín Rooftop Bar
- 617 S Spring St, 8th floor, Los Angeles, CA 90014
Inspired by the flavors of Mediterranean living, Florentín, located at the top of an intricate Old World building from the early 20th century, offers a nice reprieve from DTLA’s urban jungle. Each drink is crafted with farm-fresh juices and produce, resulting in vibrant and enticing seasonal cocktails. The Mango Sticky Rice Milk Punch is a house favorite, but if you’re in the mood for something savory, opt for the bright orange Carrot Margarita. There are four different martinis to choose from, including an espresso and lychee variation, along with a section of classic cocktails like the Paper Plane and Penicillin. If you’re hungry, the pizzas are all made with an artisanal, hand-crafted dough, but Florentín also serves salads, charcuterie boards and shareable dips.
Spire 73
- 900 Wilshire Blvd fl 73, Los Angeles, CA 90017
As the tallest open-air bar in the entire Western Hemisphere, this sleek lounge is the ultimate place to soak up L.A.'s sprawling urban landscape while sipping a stiff cocktail. Though the design is admittedly somewhat underwhelming, the main draw is the views, which range from urban cityscapes to distant ocean glimpses on a clear afternoon. The lengthy bar stretches down the room, but you can also sit window-side in the plush, daybed-like chairs. The bartenders can whip up any basic cocktail imaginable, but given their wide selection of whiskey, we recommend an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
The Roof at Edition
- 9040 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069
Head to the Sunset Strip to experience the Edition’s scenic, Latin-inspired rooftop. Whether you’re looking to soak up sunshine during the day or watch the view transform into a sea of city lights at night, this is the ultimate poolside escape in the heart of West Hollywood. The vibe is modern and chic, but bohemian accents, lush trees and terra cotta-potted plants create a warm ambiance that invites guests to kick back and get comfy with a margarita in hand. The Roof at Edition offers an impressive collection of tequila and mezcal, along with seafood dishes like sea bass ceviche, seared ahi tuna tostadas, tacos and a signature burger.
Desert 5 Spot
- 6516 Selma Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028
Inspired by Joshua Tree’s historic Pioneertown, Desert 5 Spot is a hip Hollywood rooftop bar that brings country vibes to the West Coast. The rooftop perch offers unparalleled sunset views of the Hollywood Hills, using cacti planters and pillows with Southwestern prints and patterns to set the desert scene. The most iconic piece of decor is the cowboy boot-shaped disco ball that hovers just above the small stage and dance floor inside. Expect a blend of country and classic rock live music as you enjoy the zesty Walk the Line mezcal cocktail, served in a boot-shaped glass, or the vodka-based Cactus Cooler.
Broken Shaker
- 416 W 8th St, Los Angeles, CA 90014
Located at the Freehand Hotel, DTLA’s Broken Shaker is a solid place to party poolside. This popular sunset spot is open daily, and though you’ll find some decent bites, the craft cocktails are what shine. Beat the heat with a tropical La Bomba Colada or a glass of the rotating sangria. If you’re visiting with a small group or celebrating something special, order the $150 punch bowl, which can be made with your spirit of choice and serves up to four people. Don’t skip the coconut curry shrimp skewers or brown butter hummus.
Bar Funke
- 9388 S Santa Monica Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
Looking to experience James Beard-nominated chef Evan Funke’s legendary Italian fare without the formal setting? Bar Funke is a sleek rooftop lounge where walk-ins can enjoy elevated appetizers and cocktails. The rose quartz bar is the focal point of the rooftop, but the comfy, white couches are great for leisurely dining and drinking. Since Bar Funke is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, patrons are also able to stop by for a nightcap before hitting the town or heading home. It’s also great for a sunny afternoon visit featuring an ice-cold spritz alongside burrata and house-made focaccia.
