ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida remains locked in a soggy weather pattern, with repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms forecast through the end of the week. Deep tropical moisture will support pockets of torrential rain, while lingering swell from former Tropical Storm Dolly continues to churn up hazardous surf along portions of the Atlantic coast.

WEDNESDAY

The day is expected to begin with a few Atlantic showers drifting onshore before rain coverage expands late in the morning and into the afternoon, when additional showers and thunderstorms develop across the region.

Rain and storm chances will run well above normal, around 70% to 80%, with the most widespread activity likely inland as the sea breeze moves west through Central Florida.

Forecasters say the atmosphere is loaded with moisture, with water vapor values near the upper end of what is typically observed this time of year. As a result, thunderstorms may drop heavy rainfall quickly, raising the potential for localized flooding in poor drainage areas.

All of East Central Florida is under a “Marginal Risk” for excessive rainfall today.

COASTAL THREAT

The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are not expected to reorganize, but the system is still having an impact along Florida’s beaches.

Long-period swell produced while Dolly was a tropical storm has now reached the Florida coastline.

Because of that swell, a high risk of rip currents remains in effect for all Atlantic beaches.

LATE WEEK

The wet pattern continues Thursday, with high rain and storm chances once again.

By Friday, there could be some subtle changes to where storms develop as winds shift more southerly. That could push the focus for storms farther inland, while also allowing some storms to move back toward the coast.

Heavy rain will remain a concern, but the overall flooding threat should gradually begin to decrease.

HOLIDAY WEEEKND

The wet pattern doesn’t completely go away.

Moisture will remain abundant, keeping above-normal rain and storm chances in place through the weekend and into early next week.

Temperatures will remain seasonable, with highs generally in the upper 80s to low 90s.
