The first trailer for Gregg Araki’s long-awaited return to feature filmmaking has arrived, and I Want Your Sex looks every bit as provocative, stylish and darkly funny as fans of the filmmaker might expect.

Starring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, the erotic comedy-thriller centres on Elliot (Hoffman), a young man whose life takes a dramatic turn when he lands a job working for renowned artist and provocateur Erika Tracy (Wilde). What begins as a dream opportunity quickly becomes something far more complicated when Erika chooses Elliot to become her sexual muse, drawing him into a world of obsession, power, betrayal and murder.

The trailer offers a glimpse of Wilde in one of her boldest roles to date, playing the charismatic and unpredictable Erika, who recruits Elliot into her unconventional artistic and personal life. Equal parts romantic comedy, erotic thriller and satirical character study, the film appears to blend Araki‘s trademark exploration of sexuality with his offbeat sense of humour and vivid visual style.

I Want Your Sex marks Araki’s first feature film in more than a decade and has already generated significant buzz following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Critics praised the film’s fearless approach to sexuality, while Wilde’s performance has been highlighted as one of the movie’s major strengths.

Alongside Wilde and Hoffman, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast including Charli XCX, Daveed Diggs, Mason Gooding, Chase Sui Wonders, Johnny Knoxville and Margaret Cho.

I Want Your Sex is set for US cinemas on July 31st. A UK release is still TBC.
