The duties are expected to impact roughly $28 billion worth of Canadian exports. “A 50 per cent tariff is not a margin that we can absorb, nor is it something that U.S. customers will be willing to pay,” Richmond Plywood CFO Bhavjit Thandi said. U.S. President Donald Trump says the additional tariff will apply to a wide range of goods and is in response to retaliatory measures Canada has put in place since the trade war began.
