The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning of damaging waves expected to disrupt beachfront activities along parts of the coastline on Monday, Family Day.
A Yellow Level 1 warning is in place between Saldanha Bay and Kei Mouth, where rough sea conditions could impact coastal operations and public activities.
Elsewhere, much of the country can expect partly cloudy to warm conditions, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers forecast across central and eastern provinces, including the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and parts of the Eastern Cape.
Impact-based warnings
A Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging waves leading to disruption in beachfront activities is expected between Saldanha Bay and Kei Mouth.
In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
