Environment-friendly initiatives, including adding a large number of electric buses, improving passenger experience by means of better infrastructure, and prioritising travel for women have been the transformative policies which the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has taken up, said Vice Chairman and Managing Director V Nagi Reddy.

Mr. Reddy was speaking on the occasion of 1000 days of Praja Palana where he described the transport organisation as a “lifeline” for the State.

He underscored that the TGSRTC has introduced 1,024 electric buses to the fleet, and added that another 2,200 would be added so as to reduce carbon footprint, as well as traffic congestion. These were in alignment with the Government’s Vision 2047 goals, he said. As a part of this, environment protection is a core responsibility, and more electric buses would lead to TGSRTC emerging as a role model for the country in terms of pollution free public transport.

The transport juggernaut has been working tirelessly so as to provide international infrastructure and amenities to passengers. Touching upon Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s announcement on Wednesday, he said that construction of 13 new bus stations equipped with high-tech facilities, besides new bus depots, had been expedited.

Mr. Reddy also highlighted the Mahalakshmi scheme, under which women are provided free travel on TGRTC buses, saying it had brought significant changes and contributed to the economic empowerment and self-respect for them.

He credited drivers, conductors, officials and other employees for the corporation’s progress and thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Transport Minister Mr. Prabhakar for their support to the RTC’s development initiatives.
