A bomb squad descended on a street in south Manchester on Saturday evening.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to reports of a "suspicious item in a front garden" on Abram Close in Fallowfield shortly after 6pm on Saturday. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) assessed the item, the spokesperson said.
Police, firefighters, paramedics and bomb disposal experts were seen at the scene. Residents were briefly evacuated from their homes.

Residents 'allowed back into their homes'
One of the residents has said they have been informed that they are now allowed to return to their homes.
The cordon has been reduced and some of the surrounding roads have been reopened.

One resident described seeing a bomb disposal unit deploy a robot into the property.
He said: "I'm a bit nervous about what's going on right now. This is quite a peaceful neighbourhood. This community is really tiny."

Resident says they were told to leave area
One resident told the Manchester Evening News: "I was going to my sister's and they [police] were telling everyone to evacuate the streets. They would not let us through and they started to put a cordon up. Everybody was told to go back. They pushed everyone back. There are loads of fire crews and ambulances here."

GMP called to 'suspicious item in front garden'
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that officers were called to reports of a "suspicious item in a front garden" on Abram Close in Fallowfield shortly after 6pm.
The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team is currently assessing the item, the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, residents in 20 nearby properties have been told to evacuate.
