Marcus Rashford has rediscovered his best form at Barcelona after signing on loan from Manchester United at the start of the season

Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick has confessed that neither he or the club are certain about Marcus Rashford's future beyond this season. The forward is currently on loan at the Camp Nou from Manchester United, having been permitted to depart Old Trafford last summer.

Barcelona have the option to purchase the England international for £26million at the end of the season. Rashford has netted 10 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions for the Catalan outfit. However, he has only started one of the last seven matches and has been relegated to the bench during their convincing victories over Sevilla and Newcastle.

A permanent switch to Spain has seemed the most probable outcome throughout the season, with Barca chief Deco hinting at the club's desire to retain Rashford beyond this term. But Flick's recent remarks have cast doubt over their plans to sign him on a permanent basis.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of their La Liga encounter with Rayo Vallecano, he said: "We need everyone until the end, and we don't know what will happen after that," he said. "There's time. There's a World Cup.

"I believe in my players. Cancelo, Rashford... they give us quality. And the rest, too. We'll talk at the end and see what happens. Now is not the time to say 'I want this one, I don't want that one.' Anything can happen."

Re-elected Barca president Joan Laporta is reportedly eager to extend Rashford's loan, possibly with another temporary stint. "Marcus is performing very well with assists and goals, and Cancelo, on the other hand, is doing very well," Laporta told RAC1.

"He has become a key player due to the injuries of both full-backs. We will try, in Barca's interest, to ensure that Marcus can continue."

It's understood that United have no intention of accommodating Barcelona's wish to sign Rashford on another loan. United would be open to welcoming Rashford back - and selling him to the highest bidder ahead of next season.

His performances in Spain have led United bosses to believe they could get closer to £50m, should he return from Barcelona.
