Police have arrested a man in their hunt for the notorious "Putney Pusher" - nearly a decade after a jogger was caught on CCTV pushing a woman into the path of a double-decker bus on Putney Bridge.
A 44-year-old man was arrested at his home in west London on Monday on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and remains in custody.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said today: "On Monday, 15 June, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. He was taken to police custody, where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident on 5 May 2017, where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in Putney. Inquiries continue."
Shocking CCTV footage from May 2017 showed a man appearing to shove a 33-year-old woman into the road on Putney Bridge. She escaped serious injury after the driver of an oncoming bus swerved into the adjacent lane to avoid hitting her.
Sgt Mat Knowles said at the time: "It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle."
Around 15 minutes later, the woman spotted the jogger running back across the bridge and tried in vain to speak to him.
Officers described the suspect as a white man, aged in his 30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He was wearing dark blue shorts, trainers and a grey T-shirt. Detectives interviewed over 50 people before closing the case in 2018.
