One of cinema’s greatest storytellers returns to the big screen as another filmmaker begins a nightmarish journey into the unknown. Welcome to another episode of The Chronicle, where Paul, Rosie and Sean review Disclosure Day, Backrooms, revisit Obsession, and discuss the latest Masters of the Universe adaptation.

This week’s headline release sees Steven Spielberg make his long-awaited return to science fiction with Disclosure Day. Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo, the film explores humanity’s oldest question: Are we alone in the universe? As rumours of extraterrestrial life spark the possibility of first contact, a shadowy government agency is determined to suppress the truth at any cost.

In our final segment, Sean revisits Obsession (originally covered in Episode 58) before diving into Kane Parsons’ surreal liminal horror Backrooms. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a recently divorced furniture store manager who discovers a mysterious door leading to an endless maze of empty rooms hidden beneath his shop. When he fails to attend a therapy appointment, his therapist, played by Renate Reinsve, begins searching for him, uncovering something far more unsettling.

Finally, Rosie shares her thoughts on the new live-action Masters of the Universe movie. Has the latest adaptation found the power of Grayskull, or is it another disappointing reboot?
