Japan Hit By Second Earthquake In One Day; Magnitude 6.2 Quake Strikes Hokkaido | WION Originals Breaking news from Japan: A second earthquake has struck the country in just one day, with a magnitude 6.2 earthquake reported in the Hokkaido region. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake struck off the coast of Hokkaido at around 10:45 p.m. local time. Japan’s Meteorological Agency reported the earthquake at a magnitude of 6.0, with the epicentre located at a depth of approximately 40 kilometres. Japanese authorities reported a maximum seismic intensity of four on Japan’s seven-point seismic intensity scale. There is currently no tsunami warning following the latest earthquake. The latest tremor comes after an earlier earthquake measuring around magnitude 5.9 struck eastern Japan, including the Tokyo region. That earlier quake reportedly injured around 40 people in Tokyo and neighbouring prefectures and caused disruptions to transportation services. With two earthquakes striking Japan within a single day, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing any potential damage.
