Disturbing CCTV footage has captured the deadly flash floods on the China-Nepal border Wednesday, which have killed at least 98 people, and left hundreds more missing. The prime minister’s office in Nepal reported at least 95 dead. China’s state broadcaster CCTV said a mudslide in the Tibet region’s Gyirong County, near the border, killed at least three. Sunil Sharma, a tourism board spokesperson, said among the missing are at least 133 from India, 47 from the United States, 34 from Australia, 33 from Britain and 24 from Canada. Nepal’s steep valleys are economic lifelines and travel corridors, but precarious when disaster strikes. Drone footage showed roads destroyed and buildings buried. Manoj Mishra, a teacher in Nuwakot, Nepal, says he “saw around nine trucks being swept away by the floods, including people… It’s a heartbreaking incident.” Rescue efforts are underway on both sides of the Nepal-China border, with India also stepping in to help, as Chinese president Xi Jinping calls for an "all-out" search for survivors.
