When it comes to packaged foods, we often think they are clean and safe to consume, but the reality is so different. A recent update by food authority the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has highlighted that three of the major Indian brands have raised concerns over foods safety.

What did FSSAI say?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India said it has taken cognisance of complaints circulating on social media and issued notices to Nestlé India for Maggi, KFC, Flipkart and food brand Open Secret. According to the X post by ANI, one notice was issued to Nestlé over allegations that insects or larvae were found inside a packet of Maggi noodles. FSSAI has sought a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR), including vendor details, internal quality-check logs for the batch in question, corrective measures taken to remove affected products from the supply chain, and steps being implemented to prevent a recurrence.In a separate case, FSSAI also issued a notic to KFC outlet located at MVR Mall in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, following allegations that the restaurant was operating in unhygienic conditions. The regulator has sought details of deficiencies related to hygiene, sanitation, food handling, storage, waste management, pest control and employee hygiene, along with documentary evidence of corrective and preventive measures.

And the third notice was issues to Open Secrets's "Un-junked Dates” product, delivered through Flipkart Minutes, contained insects. In this context, FSSAI has sought internal quality-control records, details of corrective actions taken to remove the product from the supply chain and measures aimed at preventing similar incidents.In response to the notice, KFC operator said that they "will conduct an investigation in respect of allegations in the notice and make our representation to FSSAI."
