Edinburgh airport has been evacuated with hundreds of passengers unable to get into the building after a 'potentially suspicious package' was identified.
All flights to Edinburgh have been diverted to Glasgow Airport while police and emergency services clear the airport. Crowds of passengers are waiting outside beyond a police corden.
Bomb disposals teams have reportedly been seen arriving at the airport. Police Scotland said: "Edinburgh airport has been evacuated as a precaution following a report of a potentially suspicious package, reported around 6.50pm on Friday, 19 June, 2026."

Airport says investigation ongoing
Edinburgh Airport wrote in a post on Facebook that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The post reads: "The situation remains ongoing while specialist teams continue to investigate."
"Parts of the airport remain partially evacuated."
"Passengers are advised to check with their airline for the latest flight information."

Buses diverted
Airport buses are still unable to get to the terminal.
Scottish citylink services are instead terminating at the Moxi hotel bus stop and picking up from the Hilton bus stop until further notice.

Passengers stuck on tarmac
Passengers have been unable to disembark flights that have landed at Edinburgh Airport and are stuck on the tarmac.
Some passengers have taken to social media and said they have been waiting on the tarmac for over an hour after landing.

Police Scotland confirmed that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) is in attendance a the airport.

Buses not going to airport
Bus firm Citylink has said that it has suspended services to and from the main terminal.
In a statement, Citylink said: 'Due to the ongoing incident at Edinburgh Airport all of our services will be terminating at the Moxi hotel bus stop and picking up from the Hilton bus stop until further notice.'
Lothian Buses have also warned of service disruptions.
A message from Lothian Buses said: 'Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Eastfield Road and Edinburgh Airport and are instead terminating at Ingliston Park & Ride until further notice.'

Edinburgh Airport has told passengers to wait for updates and check with their airlines regarding their flights.On X the airport released a statment and said: "Updates will be issued when available. Passengers should check with their airline for the latest information on their flight."

Police statement
Police Scotland issued a statement and confirmed that the bomb squad has been called to the airport.
The force said: "Edinburgh airport has been evacuated as a precaution following a report of a potentially suspicious package, reported around 6.50pm on Friday, 19 June, 2026.
"Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are in attendance and a cordon is in place around the airport with roads closed.
"Enquiries are ongoing and members of the public are advised to check ahead and contact their airline for updates."
