Thousands of Ebola vaccine doses have arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo as health authorities step up efforts to contain the country’s worst-ever outbreak. The doses come from the global stockpile of Ervebo vaccines, which were developed for previous Ebola responses. The vaccine has not been cleared for the Bundibugyo strain behind the current outbreak, but the World Health Organization says early data suggests it may offer some protection, with more research needed. More than 2,500 people have died in the outbreak, with the United Nations warning that the epidemic is growing rapidly and spreading across a vast area. In Beni, near the epicentre, local groups are working to raise awareness and encourage communities to take the outbreak seriously.
