Coronation Street fans think that Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) could have changed her story amid the murder investigation over the death of Theo Silverton.
The evil scaffolder, who was played by former Tracy Beaker star James Cartwright on the ITV soap, was killed off at the end of the much-hyped Murder Week and now the inevitable investigation is rolling on. DS Lisa Swain, who usually locks up innocent people, wrongly charged Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) for murder and when the university student was released, it was back to the drawing board for the incompetent copper.
Her colleague DC Kit Green has remained convinced from the start that Gary Windass (Mikey North), Theo's former colleague, was hiding something but couldn't put his finger on exactly what - especially after his wife Maria told the police they had wiped the CCTV from his place of work on that fateful night because it contained footage of them hooking up.
This was, of course, a lie but what Maria doesn't know is that Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) has been getting more and more involved in the case, and comforting Gary as his mental health continues to spiral, although it is not yet clear what the two are hiding.
On Friday night's episode of the world's longest-running TV soap, Maria called Gary whilst waiting for him in Speed Daal and demanded to hurry up before she confided in Shona: "I don't know...maybe I'm just overthinking it but I feel like something's not right between us at the moment.
"To look at us together, you wouldn't think anything was wrong. You'd think we were fine." To add to all this, viewers watched as Sarah tried, to no avail, to hack Kit's laptop to no avail.
Later on, DS Swain arrived at the salon with Kit in tow as she flipped her hair and announced: "We need another statement about where Gary was on the night Theo was murdered. We need her to go over it again. In case she missed anything out the first time."
Maria later appeared in the pub, telling Gary she had stuck to the story but said: "Look, Gary, if the police find out I lied about your alibi...Do you know what? I'm just gonna stop asking you. It's probably best I don't know anything."
Gary then insisted: "Look, there's nothing to know. I'm not keeping anything from you, OK? Now please keep your voice down." Just then, Maria looked Gary up and down, implying that she did not believe him at all."
Taking to X to react to the mysterious scenes, one fan said: "Gary is hiding something, but what? It seems to obvious for him to be the killer."
Another said: "Maria’s totally gonna change her story about gary now because she thinks he’s cheating. Gary should just go on and tell her the truth," whilst a third wrote: "I don’t know if I believe that Maria told the same story this time around. Her response to Gary said otherwise to me.."
A fourth said: "That’s proper dirty of Sarah to attempt to access Kit’s police login, so she can what rid of evidence on Gary. I hate to say this, but I hope Kit catches her eventually on her shifty behavior as well!"
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITV X.
