The Congress is set to revamp its organisational structure in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections, with the party finalising a new set of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents as part of its ongoing organisational exercise.

On Friday, Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal said detailed discussions had been held over two days with the party’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai, Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra and other senior functionaries to finalise the new DCC presidents.

The deliberations focused on the strategy for the ongoing Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in the State and preparations for the Assembly elections.

“In the run-up to the upcoming Assembly elections, we are gearing up to revamp our organisation to further consolidate the Opposition’s position in U.P.,” Mr. Venugopal said in a post on X.

He said the 2024 Lok Sabha election results showed that the people of U.P. had decided to “throw out the BJP” and asserted that the Congress would play a “critical role” in ensuring its defeat.

The organisational exercise comes as the Congress seeks to strengthen its grassroots network and consolidate its position in the State ahead of the next electoral contest.

Mr. Venugopal is said to have separately discussed the party’s U.P. plans with Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. However, there was no official word on this meeting.
