Tycoon Li Ka-shing and his family-backed conglomerate, along with Henderson Land Development and the Lee Shau Kee Foundation, have pledged 15 million yuan (US$2.2 million) each to support relief efforts for victims of the deadly flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.

Li family-owned CK Asset Holdings, CK Hutchison Holdings and the Li Ka Shing Foundation, as well as Henderson Land and the Lee Shau Kee Foundation, expressed condolences to those affected by the disaster.

The donations were made through the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government’s disaster relief account to support affected residents in the region.

Last Wednesday, a massive wall of mud and rock collapsed into a river along the Himalayan border between Nepal and Tibet, triggering catastrophic flooding that has killed more than 1,000 and left thousands missing.

As of Tuesday 8am, 1,010 people have been reported dead and 4,599 missing, while Chinese state news agency Xinhua said 16 people had died and 546 others remained missing in Tibet.
