Brentford hit six while Leeds knocked out Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Leeds beat Forest for the second time in just a few days thanks to second-half goals from Daniel James and James Justin.

The hosts made the brighter start with James Trafford forced into a sharp early stop from Ola Aina before Justin cleared Igor Jesus’ goal-bound header. However, Leeds gradually asserted control in an open first half, threatening through Sean Longstaff and James while Joe Rodon produced a crucial last-ditch challenge at the other end to deny Chris Wood.

The breakthrough arrived five minutes after the restart when Longstaff seized on Aina’s misplaced header, driving forward to slip in James, who maintained his composure to clip neatly past Matz Sels. Forest pushed hard for an instant equaliser, but Trafford was again equal to Wood’s low effort, allowing Leeds to keep their noses in front amidst heavy home pressure.

Farke’s men sealed the tie with 15 minutes remaining via a scrappy goalmouth scramble, as Justin ultimately forced the ball home over the line after Lucas Nmecha’s initial effort was blocked.

Ipswich continued their winning start by beating Leicester 3-1, with goals from Sindre Egeli and a double for Marcelino Nunez, while Callum Wilson scored his first for Brentford in a thumping 6-1 win at Birmingham.

Hull needed penalties to win at Stoke, and Victor Torp fired home a penalty as Coventry City rallied late to hold off Plymouth Argyle.
