After threatening to do so on social media, U.S. President Donald Trump held a press conference from the Oval Office Thursday, where viewers could see him cross out the name Lake Ontario on a map with a Sharpie and, in its place, write “Lake America.” Trump also signed an executive order, making the new hydronym official – at least in the U.S. Locals, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford – who has exchanged digital blows with Trump over the last week – are rejecting Trump’s new order, saying the Great Lake will always be known as Lake Ontario both to them and officially.
