Amanda Knox's controversial UK visit has been hit with a major setback, just hours before she was due on stage at an event to promote her new documentary about Meredith Kercher's murder

Amanda Knox has been forced to change her controversial UK plans at the final hour.

The 38-year-old - who was convicted and later acquitted over the death of student Meredith Kercher - recently landed in London to promote her latest documentary about the trial.

In a move that's left Kercher's family reeling, fans were invited to join Amanda and her husband Chistopher Robinson at two special screenings of Mouth of the Wolf in London, on April 21 and 22.

But her promotional plans have been scuppered. Planners have told The Mirror that since the documentary does not have a BFFC (British Board of Film Classification) classification, it cannot be screened to a public audience.

Instead, Amanda and her husband Christopher - who directed the film - will take to the stage to talk about the documentary and take questions from the audience, followed by a book signing.

In an email to attendees, an official wrote: "Due to the documentary not having a BFFC (British Board of Film Classification) classification, it cannot be screened to a public audience. Therefore, the event will move to a discussion and Q&A, followed by a book signing.

"Amanda Knox will take to the stage to tell her story, and her husband, Christopher Robinson, will join her to talk about the documentary before we open the floor to Q&A from the audience. We appreciate that not everyone will have access to Hulu, but if you have not done so and are able to, the documentary is available there for viewing via Disney+."

Amanda previously took to social media to share her excitement about her visit to London. "I've never been to the UK, but I'm finally going," she said. "It feels great knowing that the two documentary screenings I'm hosting are already sold out! I'll be releasing some reserved seats soon to make a few more tickets available! Please join the waitlist! And thank you, London!"

Her latest film, Mouth of the Wolf, follows Amanda as she returns to Perugia, the Italian city where Meredith was brutally murdered in 2007. It also features some original songs, sung by Amanda herself.

But critics have slammed the mother of two, accusing her of continually trying to 'cash in' on Meredith's murder following her acquittal. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Kercher family's lawyer Francesco Maresca said Amanda was turning her wrongful conviction into a money spinner.

"It seems to me and the family that every six months or so Knox makes another media initiative be it a podcast, interview, documentary or film," Mr Maresca said. "To be frank, enough is enough, they have really had more than is reasonable of it now, they and myself just don't comprehend why she keeps on doing things like this and just can't leave this alone."

He added: "On the one hand, Amanda says the trial created so much suffering for her but then she tries to have it all – the fame and the money. She continues to make money from it. This time she has no qualms about doing it in Perugia, one of the least appropriate places to return to 17 years since Meredith's death."

The blow comes just hours after Amanda appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss Lucy Letby. She revealed on the show that she "became disturbed" by some of her findings after diving into the killer nurse's case for her new podcast.

She told she Susanna Reid and Ed Balls: "People watching are also going to think, 'Well, of course Amanda Knox thinks that Lucy Letby is innocent'. To that, I would like to point out that the story around me - a lot of people were certain that I did it as well, until the evidence played out.

"I've been doing advocacy work for a long time now, it's been 18 years since I was arrested initially. I've learned a lot in the process. I've made mistakes. I've advocated for people who I came to understand were actually very likely guilty, and I’ve learned from those mistakes."

"In investigating this case, I did not approach this with a presumption of innocence," she insisted. "I approached this with, yes, an attuned understanding of how particularly women are vilified publicly, and what that says about our ability to interpret the evidence with a clear and rational mind instead of an emotionally charged one.

"But ultimately it comes down to the evidence. I found - I was not just concerned about what I found, I became disturbed by some of the things we uncover in the podcast," she added.

Amanda was released from prison in October 2011. he spent almost four years behind bars - from her arrest in November 2007 to her initial release in October 2011 - before being fully exonerated in 2015 after her conviction was overturned.

Since then she has stayed firmly in the spotlight. She has released two books - her bestselling memoir Waiting to be Heard, and Free: My Search for Meaning in 2025. She also appeared in the 2016 Netflix documentary Amanda Knox, launched a true crime podcast called Hard Knox, and even tours as a stand-up comedian joking about her conviction. Last year, she acted as executive-producer on the Hulu drama series Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
