Artificial intelligence (AI) analysis is playing a big role in the agriculture and food sectors, and any sector not adopting AI is only delaying the inevitable, according to Kunal Singhal, Managing Director of Eazy Business Solutions.
“In today’s world, be it a farmer, a manufacturer, a distribution agent or a middleman, they will have to adopt technology. The sooner they do it, the better for them. It’s better for the economy,” he said in an interaction with businessline.
Though data was captured for a long time, some insights were missed. This was because the amount of data read was less, and so was the time spent on it. With AI, data can throw alerts pre-emptively and give a lot of suggestions so that “you just have to take a call whether or not you want to implement that,” said Singhal.
Adding to wastage

“Anyone not adopting technology is only contributing to more wastage. In the same way, anyone not adopting AI in the next six months or one year is further delaying the optimisation of their work,” said the Eazy Business Solutions managing director.
Farmers are adopting AI, though the pace is slower compared with other sectors. But given the number of farmers in the country and the Government’s and private sector’s efforts, the situation is changing for the better, he said.
Digital agri mission
On the digital agriculture mission, Singhal said there was better visibility of the soil conditions, the farm pockets available in the country, the crops that will be suitable and the water availability in every geography.
Better information will eventually lead to better utilisation of the land, better productivity for the farmer and the right crop which could fetch them the right price.
“The same way, the government will be able to decide on the right seeds and crops in the right geography so that the overall production across the country improves. It will also take into account other data points such as weather forecasts, availability of pesticides or anything that can improve the overall production,” he said.
Digital tech reshaping agri, food sectors
Similarly, digital supply chain and inventory management can provide producers with an advantage. Some companies have implemented transport route optimisation so that a farmer or a crop aggregator need not depend on the availability of a trucks.
Stating that digital technologies are reshaping India’s agriculture and food sectors, Singhal said that with better visibility and tracking, it is now possible to find out where a particular agricultural or food product is and where it is being sold.
“Digital technologies tell you where to have maximum inventory or who is the right distributor to give the product. This helps because food and agricultural products have limited shelf-life,” he said.
Some of the organised players are solving supply-side issues, reaching the manufacturers from the farm. Some of them are educating farmers on what to grow and when, and how to make maximum use of their lands by rotating crops through the year.
Managing digitally
The digital management system is improving due to the digital agriculture mission and through private startups and private players in the agriculture sector
“Such public-private balancing will keep coming in and bring in further improvement to the price that the farmer is getting for their produce because now middlemen’s role is being eliminated,” the Eazy Solutions managing director said.
The rapid spread of technology and AI in rural areas is helping the younger generation to find farming more fascinating. They are using technology for planning farming, logistics and weather forecasting.
Eazy Solutions, which works with some of the pulse and spice manufacturers, helps them stabilise their inventory and distribution.
The company, founded in 2007, uses digital management solutions for its clients, which have helped them cut wastage, improve packaging and improve traceability, said Singhal.
